Joe Mazzulla confirms Jayson Tatum’s status for Game 7 vs. 76ers
Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla spoke to the media on a conference call and didn't sound concerned about Jayson Tatum's stiffness in Game 6.
The Boston Celtics haven't released an official injury report ahead of their do-or-die Game 7 against the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night. But during a conference call with the media on Thursday afternoon, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla confirmed that Celtics star Jayson Tatum will be good to go for the final game of the first-round playoff series. During the second half of a 106-93 loss in Philadelphia, Tatum was seen with his trainer, Nick Sang, and was riding the stationary bike near the team tunnel.
This caused some panic to set in for Celtics fans, who witnessed the six-time All-Star rupture his right Achilles last postseason in the second round. However, following the disappointing defeat, Tatum downplayed the stiffness in his left leg and said he expected to play on Saturday. "Yeah, he'll play," Mazzulla reiterated on Thursday.
So far, Tatum has averaged 23. 3 points, 10. 7 rebounds, and 6.
8 assists per game during the 2026 NBA Playoffs. He's arguably not fully himself yet, given the fact that his season-ending Achilles injury was less than a year ago, but he's been pretty close to the All-NBA talent the Celtics are used to. The rest of the C's haven't been as effective, as only Tatum, fellow Celtics star Jaylen Brown, and bench point guard Payton Pritchard are averaging over 9 points per outing in the first round.
