Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images Russell Wilson ‘s career in the NFL might be coming to an end soon. Wilson is in deep discussions to go into television, sparking NFL retirement rumors, as reported by The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand . The 37-year-old quarterback recently visited the New York Jets about backing up starting quarterback Geno Smith .

CBS’ Sunday pregame show, “The NFL Today,” is considered the favorite to land Wilson, as reported by Marchand. Wilson worked with CBS during the 2026 NFL playoffs, so this wouldn’t be an out-of-left-field partnership. The two sides have had lengthy talks about the big possibility.

Wilson would replace the spot on CBS left by Matt Ryan , who became the president of football for the Atlanta Falcons . As of now, James Brown, Nate Burleson, and Bill Cowher are on the pregame show. This would be a massive move for Wilson, but likely end his NFL playing career.

Last season, Wilson started for the New York Giants before being benched in favor of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart . The 2014 Super Bowl champion last played against the Chicago Bears on November 9, 2025. Wilson competed three of seven passes for 45 yards in garbage time.
