Central Texas high school baseball teams started the UIL playoffs with wins in Game 1 of bi-district series.

(John Gutierrez/Special to American-Statesman) Despite scattered thunderstorms, most Central Texas high school baseball teams got in Game 1 of their best-of-three bi-district playoff series Thursday as the UIL postseason gets underway. Weiss and Hendrickson mark the first local teams to advance to the area round after both started their series on Wednesday and recorded sweeps.

Here’s the playoff roundup for the Austin area. Class 6A Division I Lake Travis 4, Westwood 2: Dallas Witcher’s two-run single in the bottom of the sixth broke a 2-2 tie and pushed the Cavs to the win. Luke McBride, who marked the only player to tally two hits in the contest, ripped an RBI double and James Tudor drove in a run with a walk to account for Lake Travis’ other runs.

Cooper Webb tossed a two-hitter with six strikeouts to earn the win. Will Baker’s RBI single in the second and Juan Perez’s run-scoring double in the sixth led Westwood. Bowie 1, Cedar Ridge 0: Liam Bruner threw a five-hit shutout with five strikeouts and Kai Loo drove in the game’s only run with a triple in the top of the first to lead the Bulldogs.

Loo finished 2-for-2 with a walk. Sawyer Neugent tossed a three-hitter and struck out six to pace the Raiders. Game 2 is Saturday.
