The LSU Tigers didn't let the weather delay throw them off as they handled business with a 3-0 win over the Auburn Tigers to open the final weekend series of the regular season. The Tigers push their win streak to three games and improve to 11-11 in conference play and 35-16 overall. They lost their last series, against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, a weekend ago.
It'll be good for them to find some momentum before heading to the SEC tournament. LSU got a gem of a performance from senior pitcher Paytn Monticelli. She has lived up to the hype coming over from the Oklahoma Sooners.
She pitched her third complete game this season, but shut out the opponent for the first time. She struck out nine batters along the way and gave up just two walks. There was nothing that Auburn could do to answer.
It was mostly a pitcher's game the entire night outside of the third inning, where LSU picked up all of their runs. They scored on a throwing error, a single and a fielder's choice. It was all about manufacturing runs, which is needed in a game like this.
