Since Jim Schlossnagle coaches baseball instead of basketball, he must deal with weather. And on Friday, the start of the Texas-Mississippi State series may be impacted by Austin's rainy forecast.

With plenty of rain in Friday's forecast, the Texas baseball team is still holding out hope that it can play ball. Texas is set to open a three-game series against Mississippi State at UFCU Disch-Falk Field at 6:30 p. m.

on Friday, but Austin expects to receive a steady amount of rain throughout the day. Texas coach Jim Schlossnagle told reporters on Thursday that he was hopeful that, at worst, Friday's game might just be delayed since the weather is expected to taper off in the evening and the Longhorns play on a turf field. Texas Longhorns pitcher Ruger Riojas (13) pitches in the third iinning of the second game in a three-game series against the Alabama Crimson Tide at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin, April 18, 2026.

(Sara Diggins/Austin American-Statesman) Schlossnagle shared that coaches have some input as to when a game starts, but he mostly leaves the game-related decisions in the hands of UT's game operations team. The SEC will also have the final say as to if a game is cancelled or rescheduled. "I've learned to kind of let a lot of that go," Schlossnagle said.

"My saying is, if you don't like (weather), you should have been a basketball coach. Sweep the gym floor, play, (you get) cool clothes. I'm a big college basketball fan, so maybe I should have picked that if I don't like the weather.
