The Braves are heading out West again. They’ll be flying high, both literally and in the standings.

Atlanta was clicking but they’d have to deal with three formidable starting pitchers in the form of Casey Mize, Framber Valdez and Tarik Skubal. If the Braves were going to keep their run of not dropping series going, it was likely that they’d be put to the test — whether that meant simply outlasting the opposition and getting into Detroit’s bullpen or just plain ol’ beating the Tigers at their own game. As it turned out, the Braves ended up getting just enough offense on Tarik Skubal that they were able to get into Detroit’s bullpen and win it (in dramatic fashion) and that was after they took advantage of Casey Mize going down with an unfortunate injury in the first game.

The Braves ended up passing the test after all and now it’s time to see exactly how they managed to pull it off. Tuesday, April 28 Braves 5, Tigers 2 For everybody who’s been waiting to see Ronald Acuña Jr. really get going this season, this game was proof that he’s still got it in him to make a significant impact on any given game.

Both of the hits that he had in this one were doubles — he had both of those by the third inning and his second one plated Mike Yastrzemski to put the Braves up in the third inning. Matt Olson brought Acuña home with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 and then later on in the fourth inning, Acuña made a jumping catch at the wall to ensure that Kevin McGonigle didn’t at least extend the inning with an extra-base hit. Once the final three innings of the game rolled around, the Braves were still in control thanks to Martín Pérez delivering five scoreless innings while only giving up two hits.
