Dystany Spurlock Becomes First Black Woman to Race in NASCAR

Dystany Spurlock is set to become the first Black woman to race in NASCAR with her Craftsman Truck Series debut at Watkins Glen on May 8. The ARCA Menards driver will also participate in an ARCA race on the same day. Spurlock’s NASCAR entry will be viewed as a big win for aspiring women looking to make a career in the world of motorsports and stock car racing .

She joins the list of NASCAR icons such as Sara Christian , who was the first woman to race in the sport, competing in her first-ever Cup Series race in June 1949. The 34-year-old racer is set to drive the No. 69 Foxxtecca Toyota for MBM Motorsports/Garage 66.

Her racing record shows she is no stranger to motorsport . Spurlock completed her first ARCA race at Hickory last month, where she started from eighth and finished the race in seventh place. In the following race at Rockingham, Spurlock finished in 12th place.

She is also a professional motorcycle drag racer and has made multiple race starts in NHRA’s Pro Stock Motorcycle class. It’s been a while since I’ve raced on a road course, so I’m looking forward to getting back out there.

Having the opportunity to compete in ARCA and make my debut in the truck is going to be a lot of fun. I’m focused on learning as much as I can in both the car and the truck, and hopefully we can keep this top-10 momentum going! ” Spurlock’s action-filled 2026 season is being put together by an experiential media company called Foxxtecca, documenting her journey in a docuseries, Driven by Dystany: The Road to NASCAR .
