With a condition, Jose Caballero can accept Yankees going back to Anthony Volpe

” he asked. Assuming Caballero was playing dumb, he was told anyway that Anthony Volpe would be returning soon, maybe by Friday. Hearing that, Caballero smiled and stared ahead without moving his head at all for about five seconds.
Breaking the silence, he responded with another smile and a little message: “We’ll see when that happens. We’ll see. ” That’s exactly what manager Aaron Boone said before Wednesday’s 3-0 loss to the Rangers when he was asked if Volpe would be full-time starter again when he returns from offseason left labrum surgery.
Caballero definitely has made a case that he should remain the starter with his hitting, baserunning and defense playing shortstop for 30 of the Yankees’ first 31 games, 20 of them victories. Also, the Yankees probably will be weighing what they think they can get out of Volpe, who had his worst season hitting and fielding last year. The Yankees team total wins line is set at 95.
