As the preseason moves toward the regular season, teams start waiving players who were on the preseason roster but won't have a spot going forward. The players waived are far from bad basketball players. They're simple transaction casualties from a league without that many roster spaces.

More moves are likely coming, but as of 1 p. m. ET on Thursday, 14 players had been officially waived, according to the WNBA's transaction log.

The Chicago Sky had waived Jordan Hobbs and Megan Nestor. Four Phoenix Mercury players were waived: Jaime Nared, Aisha Sheppard, Maggie Doogan and Yarden Garzon. The Toronto Tempo cut ties with Dara Mabrey, Maddison Rocci and Kristy Wallace.
