Stayton athlete wins Maps Credit Union girls Athlete of the Week
This week's nominees were from Dallas, Stayton and McNary softball and Silverton, Amity and Central track and field.
Stayton softball player Maylie Brown is the winner of the Maps Credit Union high school girls Athlete of the Week, as voted by Statesman Journal readers. More: South Salem athlete wins Maps Credit Union boys Athlete of the Week A sophomore, Brown recorded three hits, three runs and three RBIs April 23 in the Eagles' 15-0 win over North Marion. Brown received 36.

Here are the other nominees. Mahayla Benoit, Dallas softball Benoit, a sophomore, posted three hits, two runs and two RBIs April 22 in the Dragons' 8-4 win over Silverton. Scout Haugen, Silverton track and field A freshman, Haugen jumped 5 feet, 9 1/4 inches April 24 to win the high jump at Nike/Jesuit Twilight Relays in Portland.
Haugen's mark is fourth on the 5A all-time list, tied for 12th in state history and is the best mark in Oregon this season by more than two inches. Three days earlier, she broke the 5A all-time freshman class record with a clearance of 5-7 in a four-team league meet at West Albany. Hadley Hughes, Amity track and field Hughes, a junior, threw a 3A season-best 130-4 for first in discus April 18 at the North Marion Invitational.
