In the rubber match between Boston and Toronto, the Red Sox gave the ball to 26-year-old pitcher Brayan Bello, who has struggled to get things going early on this season. The right-handed hurler opened the game well, but was pulled after only 63 pitches, having allowed four runs. Bello expressed his frustration with not pitching deep into games in his last few starts, but after another lackluster outing, ESPN's Jeff Passan issued the Red Sox a warning about Bello's recent dip in velocity.

"Over the past two years, Bello's fastball velocity has dipped from 95. 7 mph to 93. 6 to 91.

7," Passan wrote on Thursday. "In today's game, a 92-mph fastball will be obliterated, and Bello learned that the hard way, with the Yankees tagging him for five home runs among 13 hits he allowed two starts ago. " Though Bello has struggled early on this season, he was one of the Red Sox's most consistent and effective pitchers last season.
