The Saudis used and discarded LIV players like we all knew they would

The Saudi Public Investment Fund is done with LIV.

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund will pull its support of LIV Golf after the 2026 season, four years after helping launch the controversial league amid criticism over an obvious attempt to sportswash the atrocities of a murderous government . Who could’ve seen this coming? Apparently not the herd of former PGA players who rushed to join the league, too blinded by all that blood money to see they were being used — or too compromised to care.

The picture should be a little clearer today. Yasir Al-Rumayyan, chairman of the PIF, has stepped down from his position as chairman of the LIV board, Sports Business Journal reported Wednesday. The league is scrambling to find new investors to continue operating.

Good luck with that. Replacing the exorbitant amount of money it took to fund a league that has reportedly lost more than $5 billion since its debut won’t be easy. And I wouldn't count on the same players who left the PGA hanging to stick around when that well runs dry.

Speaking of, it seems only a matter of time before those players start tucking their tails and begging the PGA to take them back. Some, like Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed, will succeed. Others that wear the mark of the PIF beast on their foreheads, like Bryson DeChambeau, could have a harder time, per the Wall Street Journal .
