The five-time All-Star is returning to the Washington, DC area to become the director of basketball operations at Howard University, according to ESPN. Wall, who played for the Washington Wizards for a decade until 2020, becomes the latest NBA figure to take a step back in development and management. This is more than just a partnership, as Wall has taken a "hands-on approach" by recruiting and organizing team functions.
"(Wall) has helped shape the program's overall strategic vision with a focus on roster management, name, image and likeness deals, revenue sharing, agent negotiations and player mentorship, according to ESPN's Shams Charania . "He will work alongside Howard coach Kenny Blakeney and team general manager Daniel Marks in the new capacity. " This is Wall's first front office job within sports.
He spent a majority of his playing career with the Wizards but also played for the Houston Rockets and LA Clippers. The former No. 1 overall pick was known for his high basketball IQ and being the most athletic point guard during his era.
