Watch: Highlights of new Steelers OT Max Iheanachor

When an NFL team is set to go on the clock, they have a very short list of potential prospects. When the Pittsburgh Steelers were one pick away from their choice in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft, they thought they had USC wide receiver Makai Lemon and were prepared to make the pick. Then the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles pulled off a last second trade, allowing the Eagles to move up and take Lemon ahead of the Steelers.

But instead of panicking, Pittsburgh just went to the next name on that very short list. In a quick pivot, the Steelers didn't simply take the next wide receiver and went with the next highest-rated player on their board and selected former Arizona State offensive tackle Max Iheanacor. We won't know for a few seasons which player ends up the best pro but many pundits feel like the Steelers might have dodged a bullet with Lemon and landed the offensive lineman with the highest upside in the entire draft.
