Yahoo Sports

The Kentucky Wildcats and Mark Pope are getting a jump on the 2027 recruiting class, and have offered one of the fast-rising guards in the group.

The Kentucky Wildcats basketball team struggled to recruit the top players in the 2026 class, and came away without any of the top 100 players. That hasn't stopped coach Mark Pope from targeting the top players in the 2027 class. From making the final list for top ten player Obinna Ekezie to a fishing trip with top five player C.

J. Rosser , it's been a busy week for Cats recruiting news. Perhaps slipping under the radar was an offer to 2027 guard Chase Lumpkin .

However, it's a player that fans should keep an eye on, because he is rising up the rankings after some terrific play at Nike’s EYBL, Atlanta Session where he posted averages of 27 points, 7 assists, 7 rebounds, and nearly 3 steals per game. A 6'4", 170 lb shooting guard, Lumpkin is currently ranked 60th overall in his class by 247Sports, and is rated four stars. However, he's ranked in the top 50 by some services, and figures to climb even higher if he continues to play as well as he has been.

Lumpkin announced the offer from Kentucky on X. He also has offers from Louisville and several SEC teams including the Tennessee Volunteers. He has visited Lexington a few times already, and Pope is sure to get him back in town in the future as well.
