The Italian was too much for the home favourite, coming through 6-2, 7-6 at Manolo Santana Stadium. While Jodar fell short, he certainly left an impression.
After the match, Sinner signed a camera lens with the message “what a player” in reference to his opponent. Having already faced Joao Fonseca earlier in the tournament, Sinner has now come up against two of the brightest young prospects in tennis this week. Following his win over Jodar, Sinner was asked whether these two rising stars could eventually form a new ‘big four’ alongside himself and Carlos Alcaraz.

Look, I cannot predict the future, you know,” Sinner said in response to the question during his post-match press conference. “What I always believe is they’re all incredible talents.
Being an athlete you always have a lot of pressure. My advice is always to keep the pressure as much as possible away from the present, even though I know it’s always going to be a lot of talk, you know, off the court. “At the end of the day, you know, the player has to make the step forward, and then we see.
