Broncos aced their last draft without 1st or 2nd-round picks

The last time the Broncos did not make a pick in the first- or second-round of an NFL draft, they landed Terrell Davis (h/t: DNVR).

The Denver Broncos have taken an unusual approach to the 2026 offseason. They were the last team to sign an outside free agent. And this past weekend during the NFL draft, they were the last franchise to make a selection, by not having a pick in either the first round (from the Jaylen Waddle trade ) or the second round.

Denver did hold a second-round pick before the draft began, but they traded down four picks with the Buffalo Bills , just out of the second round on Friday night. But, there is a fairly good track record when Denver hasn't made a pick in the first two rounds. As DNVR's Zac Stevens pointed out on Twitter/X, the last time the Broncos didn't pick in either of the first two rounds , they ended up picking Hall of Fame running back Terrell Davis in 1995.

Davis was a sixth-round pick (196th overall), but had to work his way onto the roster. As a low-round pick, Davis fought for attention before being assigned to special teams in a preseason game. In that game, he laid a hit on San Francisco 49ers returner Tyrone Drakeford, a moment which jumpstarted his Hall of Fame career.

Davis would go on to win a league MVP award, a Super Bowl MVP and two Super Bowls. He was also a 2,000-yard rusher in his short, but impactful NFL career. The Broncos don't have a pick in the first or second round for the first time since 1995.
