James Guillory-Imagn Images Saturday afternoon, the Carolina Hurricanes completed their sweep of the Ottawa Senators …but it was a mystery who they would play in Round Two. Wednesday night, it was confirmed just who their foe would be: the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers faced the Pittsburgh Penguins in a six-game series – a series in which they took the 3-0 lead before the Penguins surged back with a vengeance, going on to win two in a row, staving off elimination.
As a matter of fact, they nearly forced a Game 7. In a rare moment, the Penguins and Flyers remained scoreless throughout regulation in Game 6, but it wasn’t without numerous chances on both ends of the ice. The Penguins outshot the Flyers in all but the second period, with the shot count being 42-32 by the end of the game.
However, the Flyers brought a more physical edge throughout the match, outhitting their neighbors to the west 45-26. The man with the lone goal was second-pair defenseman Cam York, and it was the first goal of his NHL postseason career. Following the 2026 Winter Olympics, the Flyers only had a 3.
8% chance of making the playoffs before going on an absolute tear, winning 18 of the 26 games that remained. Ironically, the night the Flyers clinched their spot in the postseason was in the last game against the Hurricanes , in which they won in the shootout. It was their second-to-last game of the regular season.
