The Nationals bounce back after yesterday's shutout to secure the win in game two over the Mets.

After getting blanked on Tuesday night , the Nationals got their revenge in game two of the three-game series after defeating the Mets 14-2 on Wednesday night. CJ Abrams got things started for the Nationals early on in the first inning after a single to right gave James Wood the first run of the night. Curtis Mead trailed Wood after Dylan Young grounded out to first putting the Nats up 2-0.

But it was a series of events in the fourth inning that truly ignited the Nationals offensive spark. Final: Washington 14, Mets 2 ✅ consecutive 10 Ks outings for Cavalli ✅ Brady House grand slam ✅ 5 Nationals record multi-RBI games https://t. co/JLFNNMCgTj pic.

twitter. com/W6J1TJDQyV — Nationals on Roundtable (@NatsRoundtable) April 30, 2026 Joey Wiemer reached on an infield single to third to give Young the run to push the Nats to 3-1. Quickly, the bases were soon loaded with Wiemer, Daylen Lile, and Nasim Nuñez.

However, this scene looked all too familiar for Nationals fans with two outs and bases loaded. In typical Nationals fashion, it wouldn’t be wrong to accept that the third out was inevitable and the inning would come to a close, but not this time. Something in the crisp and rainy 58 degree air kept the Nationals bases loaded in the fourth.
