A Michigan State football recruiting target has decommitted from the Spartans' top rival and reopened his recruitment

A Michigan State football recruiting target has decommitted from the Spartans ' top rival and reopened his recruitment. Hayes Fawcett of On3 reported on Tuesday that four-star safety Darrell Mattison of Chicago has decomitted from rival Michigan and elected to reopen his recruitment. He was committed to the Wolverines for just over a month before deciding to reopen his recruitment.

Mattison has a recruiting rating of 90 on 247Sports and is ranked as the No. 23 safety in the 2027 class. He is also a top 300 recruit, listed as the No.

244 overall prospect in the class. Michigan State extended an offer to Mattison in late January and is one of more than 20 schools known to be pursuing his talents. New Michigan State head coach Pat Fitzgerald has strong ties to the city of Chicago so I wouldn't be surprised if we see the Spartans make a run at Mattison now that he's back on the market.

We will have to see in the coming weeks if there is any buzz around the Spartans and Mattison.
