Ferrari is bringing a handful of upgrades to the Miami Grand Prix, hoping to make some ground in the battle with Mercedes and ward off McLaren. According to the Italian news outlet Corriere della Sera , Ferrari will bring “at least half a modified car. ” The new parts will include a new front wing, which was spotted in leaks of Ferrari’s filming day in Monza, and an “advanced” chassis.
The outlet reports that the new parts will give Ferrari “a few tenths” against Mercedes, though the German team will likely not stand totally still and will likely bring their own upgrades either to Miami or further down the line. F1 has been shut down due to the cancellation of the races in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi, leaving the door open for teams behind the pack to catch up. Ferrari has been the best of the rest in the early part of the season, though they are not far and away the second fastest team. McLaren, who has struggled to finish races, has the most to gain from reliability improvements, given that they do have some speed under the car.
Why Lewis Hamilton could benefit the most from upgrades? Per pundit Martin Brundle, Hamilton could stand to benefit the most from any Ferrari improvements to the car, considering his competitiveness with Charles Leclerc to start the season. “Lewis clearly enjoys these cars much more,” Brundle told Sky Sports F1.
