Former MSU football linebacker reportedly signs with Buffalo Bills
A former Michigan State linebacker turned fullback in the NFL has found a new home. Former Spartan Ben VanSumeren has reportedly signed with the Buffalo Bills, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. VanSumeren has spent his career primarily with the Philadelphia Eagles but will now head a little further north to join the Bills.
VanSumeren entered the NFL as a linebacker, playing his first two seasons with the Eagles on the defensive side of the ball. He appeared in 20 games across his first two years with the Eagles, helping them win a Super Bowl in 2025. Last year, VanSumeren switched to offense as a fullback.
His season, though, was cut short on the first play of the new year. He suffered a season-ending injury on the opening kickoff of the 2025 NFL season, which ultimately ended up being his final play with the Eagles. VanSumeren played two seasons with the Spartans from 2021 to 2022, appearing in 24 games.
He started his career at rival Michigan but transferred to Michigan State ahead of the 2021 season. #Bills sign fullback Ben VanSumeren, previously #Eagles ā Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) April 29, 2026 Contact/Follow us @ The SpartansWire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Michigan State news, notes and opinion.
