Allar was at one point projected to be a first-round pick before a disappointing 2025 campaign that ended midway through the season when he suffered a season-ending ankle injury.
The tools and size that Allar posses, though, make him an intriguing prospect and the Steelers took a swing on him with a high draft selection. It goes without saying that Allar is polarizing, with his biggest defenders pointing to those tools, as well as a bad situation at Penn State holding him back while his biggest detractors highlight his poor play in big games as being someone not built for the moment. Former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger weighed in on Footbahlin’ with Ben Roethlisberger , saying he isn’t quite sold on Allar.
“This is one that I’m not sure yet if I love it or hate it,” Roethlisberger said. “I don’t watch a lot of Penn State games. When I did watch, he never jumped off the page to me.
Is he big? Can he move? Can he throw?
Yes. But there was never a time where I was like, ‘Whoa. '” Roethlisberger adds that he thinks Will Howard is the better quarterback.
