Duke, UNC battling for 7-foot FC Barcelona player
Duke and rival North Carolina are battling to sign 7-foot big man Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje from Spain.
Jon Scheyer and his coaching staff have done a great job putting together Duke ’s roster for next season, keeping key players from last year’s team while mixing a combination of two transfer portal additions – John Blackwell and Drew Scharnowski – and the incoming recruiting class, which is ranked No. 2 in the nation, that is led by Cameron Williams and Bryson Howard. The Blue Devils might not be done yet, though, as they are currently in a battle with rival North Carolina for a talented big man, Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje, from Spain.
At 7-foot and 230 pounds, Boumtje Boumtje currently plays for FC Barcelona, where current Blue Devil Dame Sarr was before arriving in Durham. The one question is whether the Spaniard would reclassify to this year’s recruiting class and would be eligible immediately for Duke. Another FC Barcelona player, Sayon Keita, committed to the Tar Heels on Tuesday.
