Cousins dropped back from center a lot under new Raiders’ head coach

ARLINGTON, TEXAS - NOVEMBER 10: Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks coach Klint Kubiak talks to Kirk Cousins #8 during a game against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium on November 10, 2019 in Arlington, Texas. Who really knows long long Cousins will be the starter before No.

1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza, but there is clearly a chance we may see some Cousins this seasons. If that is the case, it will be interesting to see how much new Las Vegas coach Klint Kubiak has Cousins drop back from under center. As a recent X post by NFL analyst Warren Sharp shows, Cousins had 230 drop backs from under center in 2021.

That was the second most by any NFL quarterback in the past five seasons, according to Sharp. QBs dropbacks from under center in a season, last 5 years: 250 – Matthew Stafford (2025) 249 248 247 246 245 244 243 242 241 240 239 238 237 236 235 234 233 232 231 230 – Kirk Cousins (2021) 229 228 227 – Jared Goff (2024) 226 225 224 223 222 221 220 219 218 217 216 215 214 213… — Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball) April 20, 2026 Kubiak, of course, was Cousins’ offensive coordinator with the Minnesota Vikings during that 2021 season. They were together there for three seasons.

Now, reunited in Las Vegas, if Cousins does, indeed play some, we should see plenty of him dropping back from under center for the Silver and Black.
