Boston College Baseball Takes Series Against Notre Dame, Beats UMass Lowell
The Boston College baseball team picked up three wins out of their most recent four games over the past week, beating Notre Dame on Saturday and Sunday to win their weekend series before knocking off UMass Lowell on Tuesday evening. The Eagles are now at an impressive 34-14 on the season and 16-8 in ACC play as we enter the final few weeks of the season. Over the weekend, the Eagles continued their strong run in conference play, taking another ACC series by taking two of three at Notre Dame in a series that, for some reason, did not have a video stream for any of the three games.
Sunday’s game was by far the most exciting from the weekend slate, as the two teams played a back and forth affair that saw BC trailing by a run heading into the top of the ninth inning. After Ty Mainolfi drew a four pitch walk to start the inning, senior Kyle Wolff came to the plate with one out and was able to play the hero, hitting a two-run home run to left field to put the Eagles ahead for good by a 7-6 score. It was Wolff’s third home run of the weekend after a big day at the plate on Saturday and hopefully a sign that he is coming out of a slump that he has been in for much of the season.
Gavin Soares got the final three outs in the bottom half of the inning, fishing off a brilliant relief appearance that saw him go 3. 1 innings where he struck out six and allowed just one hit. Nick Wang hit a home run in the first inning as well, giving him 14 on the season and 38 in his BC career, putting him alone in third place all time in program history.
The first two games of the series were much less exciting, with both teams winning once by a mercy rule and neither game going the full 9 innings. AJ Colarusso was roughed up a bit in Friday night’s 12-2 loss, allowing six earned runs in just 4. 1 innings of work in his shortest outing since way back in early March.
Things went a whole lot better for BC on Saturday, however, with the Eagles scoring four in the third inning and twice in the fifth before exploding for 10 runs in the eighth en route to a 16-1 win. Kyle Wolff homered twice, Julio Solier added one of his own, and every BC starter had at least one hit on the day. On the mound, Brady Miller had another strong outing, going 5.
