The Bengals never came close to getting the contribution they would've hoped for out of their former third-round pick, and he was waived by Cincy late in the 2025 season. Now, he's getting another chance, albeit a small one. The Buffalo Bills have invited Burton to their rookie minicamp, despite him very much not being a rookie.
They simply want to get a look at him, with the news reported this week by NFL insider Jordan Schultz . Burton was healthy for most of the 2025 season but was consistently inactive anyway, not playing a single regular season snap. It never became more specific what had caused that, but clearly his ending with the Bengals wasn't a good one. Burton is still just 24 years old, and he was expected to grow into a talented target for Joe Burrow after being picked out of Alabama. But in his rookie season in 2024, Burton finished with just four catches for 107 yards.
Even that season, he was benched once for missing a walkthrough. The Bills have a lot of wide receivers, so it'd likely take a really impressive Burton to have any chance of sticking around with Buffalo. They'll also likely be trying to get a gauge for his behavior and how he might fit into the locker room.
