Darrell Mattison, the first commitment to Kyle Whittingham’s 2027 class, has decommitted from Michigan football.

Four-star safety Darrell Mattison, the first commitment to Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham’s 2027 class, has decommitted just more than a month after committing to the Wolverines. Mattison confirmed the decommitment, first reported by Rivals, Tuesday on social media. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder from Morgan Park High in Chicago was the first commitment of the Whittingham era.

Mattison chose Michigan on March 24 over Ole Miss, Penn State and Indiana. He also has offers from Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Michigan State, Iowa State and Louisville, among others. Mattison has not announced where he plans to attend, but a visit to Ole Miss over the weekend ahead of his Michigan decommitment suggests that may be his destination.

The Wolverines now have five players pledged to the 2027 class. This article originally appeared on The Detroit News: Darrell Mattison, a four-star safety, decomits from Michigan football
