The Diamond Heels are amongst collegiate baseball's elite. In D1baseball's latest NCAA Tournament projections, UNC is a Top 2 Regional host.

The UNC baseball team continues to prove itself amongst college's best, winning seven straight series and continuing to find stars across its roster. North Carolina (36-8-1, 17-7 ACC), which trails just Georgia Tech in the conference standings, most recently dominated archival Duke by a 22-5 mark on Saturday . The Diamond Heels drew national attention on Tuesday night, hosting Coastal Carolina in a Top-10 matchup and potential, future NCAA Tournament or College World Series clash.

To no one's surprise, UNC is projected to host a Regional. In D1Baseball's Week 12 Field of 64 projections , North Carolina earns the second national seed. Projected to join the Diamond Heels in Chapel Hill are a pair of in-state rivals: East Carolina (2-seed) and High Point (3-seed), plus Patriot League squad Navy (4-seed).

North Carolina and ECU (28-16-1, 12-6 American) battled in an early-season series, with both teams winning one game each and tying the third, a battle shortened due to weather . If the Diamond Heels and Pirates face off again, expect plenty of heated chatter and on-field fireworks. View this post on Instagram UNC won a comfortable, 9-2 outing against High Point (29-14, 11-4 Big South) on April 21, but it's tough beating a team twice in one season.

The Panthers, locked in a first place tie with Winthrop, are winners of three straight. Navy is tied with Army atop the Patriot League standings, but an impending weekend series will decide that conference's regular season champion. If North Carolina hosts the Midshipmen in May, it'll be the first matchup between both programs.
