•Yahoo Sports

Russell Wilson is a candidate to sign with the Jets to serve as the backup QB behind his old backup.

Former Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson visited the New York Jets , who are considering signing him as a backup quarterback, according to a report from The Athletic 's Zack Rosenblatt . It would be an interesting scenario for New York, a club that is currently set to start Geno Smith in 2026. If signed, Wilson would serve as the backup behind Smith, who previously served as Wilson's backup.

Smith was Wilson's backup with the Seattle Seahawks from 2019-2021. Then, after Wilson was traded to the Broncos in 2022, Smith took over as Seattle's starter from 2022-2024. After that, Smith spent the 2025 season as a starter with the Las Vegas Raiders .

Wilson has played with the New York Giants (2024) and Pittsburgh Steelers (2025) since being cut by Denver two years ago. He also went viral over the weekend after making his Savannah Bananas debut : Russell Wilson you are a Savannah Banana pic. twitter.

As things stand now, though, Wilson would be QB2 if signed by the Jets. Social : Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X !
