The Mets' infield is clearly the biggest disappointment in all of MLB this year.

Carlos Mendoza is firmly on the hot seat and might be out of a job in the very near future. There is a lot that has gone wrong with this team this season. The pitching staff in both the rotation and bullpen has been disappointing, and the outfield isn't as good as the Mets would've hoped.

But, by far, the infield is the worst group on the roster. As ESPN's David Schoenfield pointed out, 75% or 3-of-4 infielders for the Mets this season were named as the biggest disappointments in MLB at their positions this season. Those three are obviously Bo Bichette, Marcus Semien, and Francisco Lindor.

75% of the Mets' infield are biggest disappointment of 2026 season At shortstop, Schoenfield named Lindor among the biggest disappointments: "Francisco Lindor and Mookie Betts were both struggling and now are on the injured list," Schoenfield writes. While Lindor's struggles this season are well-documented, with a lot of other top shortstops also struggling, he doesn't have sole possession of the biggest disappointment at his position. The same cannot be said for Bichette and Semien.
