" Understandably, Cora turned down the Phillies job to spend time with his family after being fired by the Red Sox .
However, he will remain in play for the long-term managerial job in Philadelphia. His relationship with Dave Dombrowski will make him the top candidate for the position in the offseason. However, Mattingly is a seasoned manager who has won Manager of the Year.
