The 49ers selected Kaelon Black in the NFL draft. What is his realistic 2026 fantasy outlook, and how might he impact his RB teammates?

The 49ers selected Kaelon Black in the third round of the NFL draft. What is his realistic 2026 fantasy outlook, and how might his presence impact Christian McCaffrey, Jordan James, and Isaac Guerendo? First, Guerendo’s brief fantasy glory in 2024 seems like a long time ago.

Unless something changes in camp, he’s on track to be inactive on game days or potentially traded to an RB-needy franchise. Black’s arrival hurts Jordan James the most. A fifth-round pick last year, James demonstrated bell-cow chops at Oregon and seemed poised to take over as McCaffrey’s handcuff.

Now his camp battle with Black will be one of the most important in fantasy. Why? Because, as I’ve written before, McCaffrey is a high-probability injury and/or regression risk.

Based on historical data, his 450 touches last season (including the playoffs) put the nearly 30-year-old in the “do not draft under any circumstances” category. Load management would make him a fantasy bust. So would an injury.
