Who are the 3 best scheme fit rookies of the 2026 NFL Draft?

Schemes matter in the NFL, as well as coaching. Some players need a change of environment to succeed. Just ask Daniel Jones, Bryce Young, and Sam Darnold.

With that, we thought we would look at the top three rookies from the 2026 NFL Draft class who fit the mold perfectly for what a team is trying to build and its culture. The New York Giants , Dallas Cowboys, and Cleveland Browns struck gold in that area. I would have picked the Jets as a top team here, but they haven't necessarily figured out an identity yet, and that's okay.

They are building something special. Caleb Downs, S/Nickel, Dallas Cowboys The Ohio State Buckeyes sent what felt like every starter in the rotation to the NFL, but Caleb Downs fits the mold perfectly in Dallas. Jerry Jones has had his eyes on a corner or safety that could play nickel.

Folks were shocked when Downs slipped out of the top-10, but the Cowboys swooped in by making a trade to snag him. Downs is great in zone coverage, and Dallas will look to move him around to cover speedy opposing wide receivers and big-bodied tight ends. "Caleb will be down in the box, and heโ€™ll be lurking, and heโ€™ll be blitzing, and heโ€™ll be filling B and C gaps,โ€ coach Brian Schottenheimer said.

Arvell Reese, Linebacker, New York Giants The New York Giants are putting together something special on the defensive side of the ball, especially after drafting Abdul Carter last year as well. Reese will fit the mold by moving up to rush the passer and dropping back as a linebacker. Being a bit undersized, Reese will play mostly linebacker.
