Kansas City Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt spoke with reporters during a recent press conference about the NFL's potential to add an 18th regular season game. "It's not a high priority right now for the league. It's something that's been talked about quite a bit.

It'll be part of the collective bargaining process with the players' union when we get to that here in a few years. " said Hunt "The one thing that's attractive about it to me is it does open up more inventory to play internationally, which is something that we believe is important for the NFL and something that the Chiefs would like to participate in as regularly as possible. " The NFL added a 17th game ahead of the 2021 season, eliminating one preseason game.

Commissioner Roger Goodell has expressed interest in adding an 18th game in place of another exhibition game, while continuing to expand the league's international reach. "So, I think that's the big positive of it. I'm a little bit old school in that I do believe the preseason games serve a purpose in terms of getting players ready for the season, getting teams ready for this season," said Hunt, "So, I'm not as excited about dropping another preseason game, but those are tradeoffs that will have to be weighed at the time.

" The NFL will have nine international games next season, with hopes of eventually having 16 international games a year so each team can participate. This article originally appeared on Chiefs Wire: Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt comments on potential 18th regular season game
