Commanders add four-time All-Big Ten kicker after NFL draft
The Commanders are finally bringing in some kicking competition.
The Washington Commanders have signed themselves an additional kicker. Some (like me) thought the Commanders might use their round-seven choice on a kicker, but that selection went to Rutgers QB Athan Kaliakmanis, in hopes of improving their third-quarterback situation, and that is understandable. Two days after the conclusion of the 2026 NFL Draft, the Commanders signed undrafted Iowa kicker Drew Stevens.
Stevens was a four-time All-Big Ten Kicker with the Hawkeyes. Stevens kicked with the Hawkeyes all four seasons (2022-25). In his four seasons he connected on all but two of his extra point attempts (124-126).
Regarding field goals, Stevens enjoyed two seasons of accuracy, successfully connecting on 88. 9 and 87. 0 percent of his field goal attempts.
But honestly, his other two seasons saw drop offs in percentage, connecting on 69. 2 and 78. 6 percent.
