After the Dexter Lawrence trade and draft, the Giants are expected to sign former Bengals defensive tackle DJ Reader, according to multiple reports.

The New York Giants are expected to sign former Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle DJ Reader, according to multiple reports. The Giants reportedly hosted Reader for a free-agent visit April 13. In March, the Baltimore Ravens reportedly hosted Reader for a visit.

Reader, 31, played in 32 games for the Detroit Lions over the past two seasons. He joined the Lions as an unrestricted free agent in 2024 after playing in 44 games over the previous four seasons with the Bengals. The Giants are looking to replace defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence , who was traded to the Bengals for the 10th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Lawrence's one-year, $28-million extension with the Bengals freed up nearly $5M of 2026 cap space, according to Spotrac. The Bengals announced that Lawrence will wear the No. 97 jersey Shemar Stewart wore as a rookie in 2025.
