Rutgers Baseball wins series vs. Ohio State
The Scarlet Knights dropped two of three to the Buckeyes.
Rutgers was able to win the series against Ohio State over the weekend at Bainton Field in Piscataway. The Scarlet Knights dropped the first game of the series before winning the last two to end it. Rutgers is now 22-22 overall and 9-12 in Big Ten play.
Game One It was a difficult start to the weekend offensively on Friday as Rutgers was shutdown by Gavin Kuzniewski of the Buckeyes. The Scarlet Knights were held to just four hits during an 8-0 loss to open action. It was a scoreless tie heading into the fifth inning before Ohio State got the Zack Konstantinovsky for three runs.
This was more than enough but Ohio State would score two of the next two innings to close it out. Yomas Carreras finished 2-for-4 for Rutgers. Trey Wells was on base twice with two walks.
Game Two Rutgers did not break out offensively on Saturday but the pitching staff was able to keep Ohio State off the board in a 3-0 win. Vincent Borghese earned the win with five shutout innings allowing four hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Jordan Savinon and Joe Mazza each allowed a hit as they combined for the final three innings.
