After another fun week of the high school boys track and field season, it's time to look back on the best performances. Read about the players who stood out last week and let us know who you think should be the HSS North Jersey Performer of the Week in the poll at the bottom of this page. Voting closes at 5 p.
m. Thursday. Jonathan Griffiths, Bergen Catholic The versatile junior stepped up in light of injuries to teammates to run both the 4-x-100 and 4-x-400 relays for the Crusaders at the Penn Relays and his contributions led to a Northeast title win in the former event.
Elijah Jackson, Don Bosco The only senior on Don Bosco's first team to win a 4-x-400 race at the Penn Relays in 15 years, he led off with an excellent 50. 20 leg and the Ironmen led nearly every step of the race. Michael McGinnity, Hackensack The Monmouth University bound McGinnity ran a pair of outstanding 800 meter splits.
The senior, who won the State Group 4 1,600 and 3,200 indoor track titles, ran 1:56. 16 in the preliminary and anchored the Comets to a third place finish in the Championship of America. Tanner Newman, Wayne Hills The only senior on the first Patriot team to win a Penn Relays mini-wheel in the 4-x-400 relay, he led off the team and survived the chaos that comes in the event to put his team on the road to victory Evan Yuzon, Glen Rock The junior was the top New Jersey finisher in the Penn Relays shot put with a solid throw of 59-7 1/2 and missed a medal by just one centimeter (1/4 inch).
