Positive update on Otega Oweh returning if NCAA 5-in-5 proposal passes

The 5-for-5 rule has really put a halt to offseason recruiting at the moment as college basketball staffs wait and see if a whole new group of players becomes eligible if the rule passes. For Kentucky Basketball , it didn’t seem like much weight should be put on a return from several players, as Denzel Aberdeen has already committed back to Todd Golden and the Florida Gators if it passes, and Otega Oweh seemed destined for the NBA. Well, one recent conversation with a recruit’s father has definitely given the BBN some hope of a Year 5.

In a recent conversation with Jacob Polacheck of KSR , Jerone Morton’s father, Derrick, spoke about his son’s recent visit to Lexington. The comment about Oweh is what will start making waves. “I heard that if that fifth year passes, then [Otega] Oweh might be coming back.

If he does come back, that’s going to probably move Jerone down the line on being able to play,” said the elder Morton. Could this rule bring Oweh back to Lexington? Seems like there might be more chatter about it than we all expected.

However, there’s still uncertainty about whether 5-in-5 will pass, whether current players will be grandfathered in, or if this rule will instead apply only to incoming freshmen. And even if it passes, Oweh will likely continue to go through the NBA Draft process and not announce a decision until closer to the NCAA’s draft withdrawal deadline on May 27. But if current players like Oweh are grandfathered in, then it sounds like there’s a real chance he’ll be back in Lexington next season.
