Of course, the biggest was firing longtime manager Alex Cora . At the time, the Red Sox were 10-17 and in last place in the AL East. Things were trending downward, to say the least.

Chad Tracy, who managed Boston's Triple-A affiliate, will serve as the interim skipper. The Red Sox can stick with Tracy or opt to hire someone from outside the organization. FanSided's Zachary Rotman tabbed a former Red Sox catcher and Chicago Cubs manager as a potential candidate.

"Yes, [David] Ross had a losing record in his four-year tenure with Chicago, but he helped guide them through a short rebuild and had the team on the cusp of a postseason berth in 2023 before being fired that offseason and replaced by Craig Counsell," Rotman wrote Saturday. "I don't blame the Cubs for doing what they could to hire Counsell, one of the best managers in the game, but that doesn't mean Ross deserved to be fired after an 83-79 season. " Ross played parts of three seasons with the Red Sox during his career and was a member of the 2013 World Series champion team.
