Former Cincinnati Bearcats quarterback Brendan Sorsby is on indefinite leave from Texas Tech seeking gambling addiction treatment

As first reported by ESPN's Pete Thamel , former Cincinnati Bearcats quarterback Brendan Sorsby, now with the Texas Tech Red Raiders , has entered a facility for treatment of a gambling addiction. From Texas Tech coach Joey McGuire: “We love Brendan and support his decision to seek professional help. Taking this step requires courage, and our primary focus is on him as a person.

Our program is behind Brendan as he prioritizes his health. ” https://t. co/C7rzpIom2s — Pete Thamel (@PeteThamel) April 27, 2026 Thamel's report says the current Texas Tech quarterback was found to have made "thousands of online bets" on various sports through a gambling app.

The NCAA is investigating this, according to sources, as student-athletes are not permitted to bet on both college and pro sports. The report says that while Sorsby was at Indiana in 2022, prior to UC, he bet on the Hoosiers to win. He only played in one game that season.

When initially reached, current Cincinnati Bearcats head coach Scott Satterfield had not heard of the gambling report on Sorsby. "We love Brendan and support his decision to seek professional help," Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire said in a statement. "Taking this step requires courage, and our primary focus is on him as a person.
