Eisenhower's Caleb Johns wins Piggly Wiggly athlete of the week poll

With over 45.6% of last week's votes, Caleb Johns of New Berlin Eisenhower baseball won the Piggly Wiggly high school athlete of the week poll.

Caleb Johns of New Berlin Eisenhower baseball was the winner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Piggly Wiggly high school athlete of the week poll from April 13 to April 18. Despite a 5-4 loss to Brookfield East during a rain-filled week around the area, Johns had a monster day at the dish April 18 for the defending state champion Lions. He hit a pair of home runs, added a sacrifice fly and tallied four runs batted in against the Spartans.

Johns received 24,121 of 52,866 total votes cast. Maricella Rivera of Pius XI Catholic girls soccer was the runner-up in last week's poll. The junior was a one-woman wrecking crew April 14 against Racine St.

Catherine’s, scoring all eight goals in an 8-0 victory for the Popes. Other nominees in the poll included Monty O'Brien of Wauwatosa East baseball, Makenna Best of Brookfield Academy softball and Gavin Reilly of Mukwonago baseball.
