The clock is ticking on the future of New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen, and his time might run out sooner than expected.
It's not hard to see why Schoen is in such trouble. Not only has he failed miserably overall since taking over in 2022, but he is basically just a body in the Giants' organization. We say that because head coach John Harbaugh reports directly to the owner , which means he outranks Schoen and renders the general manager powerless.
If you're wondering what Schoen actually does these days, we're wondering the same thing. Harbaugh said "it's really not that important" when asked about reporting directly to John Mara, but we know it most definitely is. Could Giants fire Joe Schoen this week?
The New York Daily News' Pat Leonard threw out this nugget on Sunday night: there are some around the league who think Schoen could get canned as soon as this week. "But you talk to people in the league, it feels like anything is on the board right now. There are people in the NFL who think Joe Schoen could be fired this week," Leonard reported.
