Now that the 2026 NFL Draft is over, it’s easy to say the Los Angeles Rams had the biggest shocker of the weekend, making Alabama QB Ty Simpson the 13th overall pick in the first round. After all, Matthew Stafford is coming off an MVP season. But he’s also 38 years old, and entering the final year of his contract.

The Rams now have three quarterbacks on the roster, and the team has made fairly significant investments in each one. Stafford is entering the final season of his two-year $84 million contract, Simpson was a first-round pick, and third-stringer Stetson Bennett was a fourth-round selection in 2023. One would assume that Rams general manager Les Snead is more than content with his new-look QB room.

But that may not be the case. According to Rams head coach Sean McVay, the team still isn’t ready to close the door on signing Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason. “I wouldn’t say that,” McVay said .

“I don’t want to say completely closed, but I would say this. You guys know how much I appreciate Jimmy and what he could really do. I always viewed him as a starting-caliber quarterback.
