A loss after all that momentum really does feel terrible.

An unfortunate own goal from Liverpoo’s Cornelia Kapocs was the sole decider on the day, and put a frustrating end to the momentum that the Red Women had built towards this point. “It was a bit of a flat game from us in the first half and then they punished us for it,” defender Jenna Clark told the club website. “It can be a bit frustrating when you’ve built some momentum and then you have to break away again.

But every team has to face that, so we can’t really use that as an excuse. Did it impact today? Potentially, but we can’t use it as an excuse.

“We’ve still got some big games left to play. The season’s not finished yet, so we’ll go into those games and give it our all for sure. ” To be fair, the women have been dealing with their own host of injury problems, with Martha Thomas the most recent absentee , but the disappointment is still tangible as they enter the home stretch and hope to avoid the same place they spent most of the first half of the season.
