The Red Sox have a lot of questions after firing Alex Cora and five members of his coaching staff Saturday night . One of them being who will be the bench coach? “We’re still working through that,” chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said Sunday.
“Obviously things have moved pretty quickly and particularly for (interim manager Chad Tracy ), but what I told him is we want to make this as comfortable as possible. And so I want him to give some thought to that. And I know he’s got relationships with many of the people on staff, and we’ll kind of figure out exactly who takes on those responsibilities.
” Ramón Vázquez had been with the Red Sox since 2018 and became the bench coach in 2022. Double-A Portland manager Chad Epperson will be Boston’s interim third base coach, while Triple-A Worcester hitting coach Collin Hetzler will join the Red Sox hitting staff. There will be other additions to the staff, though it’s unclear who and when.
“We’re still kind of working through the specific logistics, but again, kind of similar to answering that bench coach question,” Breslow said. “Once Trace has a chance to get his feet under him a little bit, we’re going to talk through where he feels like he can be complimented. ” José Flores, Boston’s first base coach, was named by Tracy as someone who could be the bench coach.
