Cora helped the Red Sox win a World Series in 2018, but the Red Sox still decided to move on from him, as well as hitting coach Peter Fatse, third base coach Kyle Hudson, bench coach Ramon Vazquez, assistant hitting coach Dillon Lawson and major league hitting strategy coach Joe Cronin were also let go. Many of the players spoke on Sunday, but Trevor Story was perhaps the most vocal and clear. He is a veteran and noted that he did not think Cora and the other coaches got a fair shot.

"Veteran shortstop Trevor Story called Cora and others who were fired 'some of the best coaches in the world,' and said he 'felt like they didn’t get a fair shot,' wrote The Athletic's Spencer Nusbaum . This is the business side of sports, and the organization made a move that it felt was in the best interest of the team. In this situation, feelings and relationships were not the primary focus.

Story highlighted that fact as well. “If this shows us anything,” Story said, “it’s we’re here to play baseball, and that’s it. We don’t make decisions.

We don’t have any input on that. ” Story was not in the lineup on Sunday, but interim manager Chad Tracy noted that it was just a rest day. However, Story noted that he does want to clear the air with Breslow on Sunday, per MassLive's Chris Cotillo .
