MOTM (not a) Poll: BVB Run Roughshod Over Exhausted SC Freiburg
Borussia Dortmund steamrolled a team that played 120 minutes during the midweek.
If Borussia Dortmund could face an opponent that played 120 minutes during the midweek every weekend, then being a fan would be a lot more fun. A few days after bitterly falling out of the DFB Pokal against VfB Stuttgart, Freiburg lumbered into the Westfalenstadion and got ruthlessly steamrolled by a much fresher Dortmund side. Sometimes, life isn’t fair.
We got goals from Maxi Beier, Ramy Bensebaini, Serhou Guirassy, and Fabio Silva, amid strong performances from newcomer Samuele Inacio, Waldemar Anton, and Marcel Sabitzer. Here are my shouts for man of the match: Samuele Inacio It was a remarkable debut for the young lad, and a MOTM nomination is fully deserved. He was second only to Serhou Guirassy in combined xG+xA, despite not playing the full game.
On Dortmund’s second goal, his movement and pass to Brandt helped create the goal, and would be an assist if secondaries were counted. He almost scored from a point-blank effort that was unfortunately saved by Noah Atubolu in the 60th minute. Ramy Bensebaini With a goal and an assist, he is now Dortmund’s fifth highest goalscorer for the season.
In addition to his offense, he was second on the team in defensive contributions, won 12 of 16 total duels, and completed 89% of his passes. Maxi Beier He looked brilliant. His goal was well taken and came off a superb touch.
