Will Mohamed Salah miss World Cup? Egypt director gives injury update on Liverpool star
Mohamed Salah may have played his last game for Liverpool. After suffering a hamstring injury in Liverpool's 3-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, the winger could miss the rest of the club season. In the 58th minute, Salah dropped to the ground, clutching his left hamstring.
Moments later, the club legend left the pitch to a loud ovation from the home faithful at Anfield. While the Merseyside club has yet to make an announcement on the extent of the injury, Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan provided an update on the 33-year-old's status. "He has suffered a hamstring tear and will require four weeks โof treatment," Hassan said in an interview with Reuters on Saturday.
Despite the ill-timed injury, Hassan believes that the Egyptian star will be fit for the upcoming World Cup. The Pharaohs kick off the tournament on June 15 when they take on Belgium at Lumen Field in Seattle. However, it could spell the end to an amazing Liverpool career for Salah, who announced on March 24 that he was leaving the club after nine years.
Since joining the club from AS Roma back in June 2017, Salah has scored an astonishing 257 goals in 440 appearances across all competitions. He is the third-highest goalscorer in the club's history. Currently fourth in the Premier League table, Liverpool prepares for a rivalry matchup against Manchester United at Old Trafford on May 3.
The Reds play their last game of the season on May 24 against Brentford. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Mo Salah injury update: Will Egypt star miss World Cup?
